Blood Can Be Both

Blood Can Be Both

A Poem by Ally Baker

BLOOD

It's a funny thing, really

So many things end in it.

A few start in it.

Never

In a million years

Would I have guessed we

Would both start and end in it.

You

Were there for me, out of no where,

When I felt I was drowning in

All the blood.  You were my savior.

We

Started out that way, damsel

In distress and her heroic knight.

And it all seemed so perfect

But

At some point, it all changed,

Shifting out of place ever so slightly

But enough to throw me off.

When

You left, my savior gone, My knight

having fled in the middle of the night

The blood returned.

Who

Would have guess that being near you

Kept it away, Now that you are gone

It is not and it swallows me whole

It

Sucks  me into it's depths, pouring over me,

Wave after wave of dark crimson, drowning me, slowly,

Filling my burning lungs as I fall to the floor

I

Reach out, seek your hand. but my knight

Has fled me; there is no one to help me,

To save this poor damsel in deadly distress.

Blood

Can start things.

It can end them.

I never would've guessed it could do both.
