Shadows

Shadows

A Poem by Ally Baker

I turn to my left

Then to my right

Finally I drop to my knees

Burying my face in my hands

My head tells me to go left

To follow that bright light

That my soul so easily tells

Me is the path of good

But something inside of me

Something I can no longer quiet

Longs to turn the other way

And be lost in the shadows of the darkness

I feel in my heart of hearts

How basic this decision is

The choice of light or dark

The path of good or evil

In theory, its as easy as

Mumbling a simple word and

Stumbling in the general direction

of the choice that you make.

But when it comes down to it,

To finally make the decision,

Both sides whispering sweet

Nothings to your very soul...

Some give in to the raw power

To the right, as I do now.

I stand up, confidence in my

Decision as I stumble to my right

And welcome the darkness

As it envelopes me so completely

I draw strength from the shadows,

and sigh gleefully, happy.

Sounds of an internal Armageddon happening... I really like this, a very creative look and the battle with your conscience between doing what's right or letting loose to explore the unknown.
