They Sit and Watch

They Sit and Watch

A Poem by Ally Baker

They sit and watch

And wait for the others

To join them once they

See the world as they once did

They sit and watch

And wait for the others to

Understand the truth of

Everything that surrounds them

They wait for them in

Hopes that they do not see

How cruel the world is

And the truth behind it all

They wait and watch, their

Wings aching on their backs

To make sure that they do not

Make the same mistakes

The sit and watch

And wait for the others

To make their choice

To stay grounded

Or to leave the world behind

Grow a pair of wings and

Watch over the ones that are

Left on the list – Death’s list
