This Moment

A Poem by Ally Baker

i walk the halls

as i do always

and see him there

in his most favorite spot

staring

my cheeks redden

and i let my hair

drop in from of my face

blocking possible eye contact

between the two of us

standing at my locker

i feel a tap on my shoulder

startled, i turn

to find his beautiful face

inches from my own

i fall back against my locker

his eyes soften

'sorry' he whispers

not sure of what to do

i just stare

'i wanted to ask you something'

i nod, urging him on

he seems to choke on the words

'nevermind' he races off

his face a bright red

i watch him go

my insides exploding

with happiness

because he will come back

and if not?

well i will always hold

this moment

close to me

in my smiling heart
