Phoenix Soul

Phoenix Soul

A Poem by Ally Baker

When you live in the dark
A speck of light burns
An alien virus searing veins
Light so  foreign to the dark

That minuscule speck of light
Burns a hole in the dark ice
Releasing shadows and demons
That tear into the soul and being

But when there is enough light
The ice will thaw and melt
Drowning the shadowed demons
And freeing the tortured soul

The melted ice runs like tears
Over all the cuts, bruises, and gashes
Bringing back the pain as it heals
Creating a phoenix from the burned soul
