The Closet

The Closet

A Poem by Joshua Ramirez

"

Sneaking shadows, creaking silence,

I stay still.

Darkness skulks amidst them,

I stay still.

The lies fly right through them,

I can see past it.

The concrete-minded door closed,

I can see past it.

The window flies open, the smell erased,

It hooks onto me.

Secrets held within, none have escaped,

It hooks onto me.

Can I leave the darkness?

Can I open the secrets?

Can I let loose the scents?

Can I unlock the truth?

“No.”

“No, not yet.”

They tell me no,

I cannot leave.

When I can leave?

How much longer?

“In due time, be patient.”

Locked in blackness, I must work behind it.

With patience, light bourgeons.

How long will it take for that to happen?

“Shhhh, soon.”

Joshua Ramirez
This is a poem about my real life. I am currently hiding secrets, closing myself off to those I live among. It is difficult to share and open up, due to the rejection of those I love.

Everyone suggests and give free advise of opening up to your loved ones but that is not always the case! It is not about courage but sometimes hiding itself is a courage as in absence of it ... The bridge of relationship will collapse. Hope, you soon find a new way or be content to what you are doing. Good luck.

i like the poem and it made me think and put myself in your place
it's hard to keep secrets specialy from poeple that we love it's awful and it takes away the joy of life
just take your time and prepare yourself mentaly to face every one in the end you can't live inside a lie and if they don't love you enough to support and be there for you then they just dont deserve your presence in their lives it does'nt metter if it's love , friends or family just free yourself from the darkness of those burden secrets
just open the door to the light and don't listen to those voices

As a bisexual woman, I connected with this a lot. I understand that this can be taken in other ways than just sexuality, but that's how it really applied to me and hit me when I read it. I think this is a wonderful piece on how we can be afraid of people's reactions when we disclose a secret to them, no matter what that secret is. You just have to remember that you have to be true to yourself.

You can feel the avoidance in your first stanza, the second and third tell a story of living a lie to evade conflict, and the rest of your poem concatenates a story of waiting for the right moment.

The anxiety of not living and being the way you want can eat you alive. A stressful situation indeed.

Enjoyed your poem Joshua. Thanks for sharing.
