Sleeper

Sleeper

A Poem by Lucas C. M.
"

This was one I wrote in honor of my good friend. May he rest in all our classes peacefully. No, he is still alive.

"
You type to a beat,
Your fingers dart from letter to letter,
Your words flow absently,
Your sentences form and are followed with paragraphs,

Then you stop,
A noise has taken you,
Wrapping you in a blanket of distraction,

You look to your left,
You look to your right,
You look ahead of you,
Then you see why,

There is a boy,
A kid about your age,
With their text book open,
Snoring right on away,

You try to go back,
Trying not to be rude,
You try to write,
But the snoring continues,

You sigh and your strain,
Your concentration blank,
You finally give,
As you look up,

Others have noticed,
But mutter quitley to one another,
As no one does nothing,
Neither does your teacher,

You sigh,
You move,
You get up and move,
If no one will wake them then you sure would,

With a quick pace,
You tap them on the shoulder,
They move a little,

You tap them again,
And they reach in your direction,
You manage to sidestep a small sweep,
As you cough awkwardly,

They finally raise their head,
They have an awful sneer,
You give a look of dislike,
They go back to snoring,

You ask them to stop,
But they ignore you,
You head back to your desk,
Defeated in this,

As you sit down,
As you save your work,
The bell rings,
And you get up,

People file out,
The sleeping person is gone,
As if by a spell,
They had moved on,

You stand there for a few,
Then gather your things,
You walk out the door,
And move along your way,

Your patience is low,
Your day is going,
You give a sigh,
Then enter your next class,

You take a seat,
Then you look up,

But sure enough,
There he is,
The sleeping boy,
Who has slept ever since,

You sigh,
Another day,
Just like the rest,

This poem made me laugh, but at the same time I definitely can relate to this. Maybe not in class, but when im trying to sleep at night, my mums room is right next door and her boyfriend and her snore very loudly, keeping me awake half the night. Also when writing a poem I can't concentrate with hearing the snoring.
It is extremely annoying, i feel the frustration in this piece.
Great write::)

hey, Lucas. A funny poem, this is. Well, maybe it doesn't make me laugh like crazy. But, what makes this funny is the actuality and simplicity you put into the tone of the poem. A sense of continous boredom also plays a role in making this poem unique. Good job. And may one day your friend find a cosier place to rest.

No problem. I see. So, i guess it's also about the annoyance.
