A Chapter by Spade

"Um," I cleared my throat. Well, this was s****y. Everyone was staring at me like I ate three kittens. "Sorry? I had just left my-"
"Sorry? Hmpf!" she scoffed. "Sorry doesn't get you here on time! Next time-"
"But see, there won't be a next time, ma'am. It's just that I forgot my key-"
"Interrupt me one more time and you're-"
"Let me finish and I won't have to-"
"Get out of my class. Now."

I sighed. It was only homeroom. "I'll escort myself, ma'am."
"No backtalk!" she screeched while bobbing her too-big head. I saw Rina's smirk and smiled. This b***h was crazy.
I rolled my eyes as I closed the door. Not wanting to look lame, I decided to take a tour of this school. Everyone else might've been able to look around when they came (unnecessarily) to the Get-To-Know-You-Week before school, but I had more important things (Zoey and Melissa) to attend to.
Teetering around the corner, I started at the wooden (?) walls. American artists were everywhere. Personally, I thought it was lame. I mean, here we are in Japan, and you want us to look up to someone outside our culture? Not that there's anything wrong with them, but uh...What the hell?
Putting my Japanese pride aside, I gazed at the posters. At least they were good American icons.
Slowly, I started walking on the hallway floor, identifying the posters. Audrey Hepburn,
Matt Damon, Mary J. Blige, Justin Bieber. Blah, blah, blah...Suddenly I froze. I saw a poster of Vanessa Carlton. She was my idol; my own God on Earth. Even though she only had, like, one single, that single was (and still is) everything to me. I hope one day to find someone I can walk a thousand miles for.
Lost in my admiration for the poster, I didn't notice Hunter step next to me. "Having fun?" he laughed.
I gasped and flinched. That really scared me. "Hunter," I breathed.
He touched the bow on my head. "That's me," he laughed some more. "What're you doing out here? Homeroom started 15 minutes ago."
I blushed. "I sort of got kicked out..."
 Hunter smiled. "Ms. Kato?"
 "You know it."
"So," he drawled out. "What are you doing out here?"
I gestured to the wall. "Just looking at these posters. What are you doing?"
For once, it was Hunter's turn to blush. "When I saw you in the halls alone, I thought you could use some company."
I hid under my bangs. "I was pretty lonely..."
He bent down, all six feet of him, and lifted my chin up. "You know, we should hang out sometime," he whispered. "So you don't get lonely, and all."
His breath smelled like mints. "I don't think that would be a bad idea, Hunter."
We just stayed in this position, my chin tilted up by his index finger, him leaning down to my height, for a while. Suddenly, and too quickly if you ask me, the bell rang and we flinched.
Hunter cleared his throat and smiled. "Well, that's the bell. Looks like homeroom's over."
 "Yeah, looks like," I giggled.
Hunter patted my bow one more time before leaving. "Hope your day goes better," he called.
"I hope so too," I whispered behind his back. When he was out of view, I reached into my tote (Who still wears backpacks?) and took out my schedule. Now I can finally start my day.

With a heavy breath, I pressed my room number in the elevator code and boarded it. Everyone else wanted to
stay and practice their talents (something you only have to do once a week) but I wanted to just lay down. School was alright, aside from homeroom, but I was mentally tired.
Stepping into my room, I closed my eyes. Today, I almost kissed Hunter. I think. It makes me nervous when I think of him, but not in a bad way. In more of a Will-He-Like-The-Way-I-Kiss? way.
Aside from the Hunter scene (I wonder when he'll ask me to hang?), everyone complimented me on my outfit today. While that doesn't make boy-stress or crazy-teacher stress go away, that does make me smile inside.
I threw my tote next to my bed and pulled out my cell. I sighed; still no texts. From anyone.
Getting on Twitter to see what was going on in the world, I sat on my bed thankful that we didn't get homework on the first day. At least, I didn't.
Fumbling at first with the lock, Rina stepped into my room with Mio behind her. "Would you please tell your puppy to stop following me? I know I'm hot, but..."
Mio blushed and stuttered when she spoke. "I-I-I wasn't f-f-following you, I just wanted to s-s-see Spade,"
"Stop being mean to Mio, right now," I snapped. Mio might be lively, but as I was starting to learn, for how happy she can be is how sad she can be, too.
Mio lifted her gaze up from the floor and mouthed "Thank you".
Rina scoffed. "Whatever. I'm going to go get a pedi with Noa. Yesterday's ballet practice left me with rough feet," She threw her stuff on her bed. "I just came to drop my things off. Bye."
After she walked out the door, I turned to see Mio staring at me. "What?" I said.
"When she said Noa's name, you kinda looked angry. Is there something I should know?" she smirked.
I laughed. Was she implying I'm jealous of Noa? "Trust me,  if there was something to know you'd be the first to hear about it."
"Good," her purple head bobbed. "Because you're mine. So, tell me!"
I stared at her. "Tell you...what?"
"About Hunter!" she squealed. "Shay told Kam the she heard from a teacher who was talking to other teachers-"
 "That what?"
She bounced up and down. "That you and Hunter ditched class together!"
"Mio," I started slowly. How the hell did that rumor happen? "I got kicked out of homeroom for being late. Hunter just happened to be in the hall, and we talked." I left out the part about him asking me to hang out sometime.
"Oh," she said, deflated. "I thought you guys were secretly going out and wanted to sneak out to be with each other."
I giggled. "You have an odd imagination,"
She looked at me and blushed. "There's nothing wrong with wishing for special things."
Suddenly my phone beeped. I took it and held it so Mio could see.
"Hey, you have a Twitter? I didn't know,"
I looked at the Twitter update. "I've only been here for like, 3 days. I didn't know anyone knew about it." Going to my mentions, I saw someone named "HunterForce" tweeted me:

HunterForce: @RosySpade i'd never thought i'd find u! now we can keep in contact. :) DM me ur cell #?

Mio's scream was glass shattering. "Ohmygod, he tweeted you!"
I tried to keep my voice cool. "Yeah, so? It's just a tweet,"
Mio grabbed me by the shoulders. "Do you know what this means? He searched for you, Spade. He wants your cell! This major!"
I blew my bangs out of my eyes. "Mio, it's just a tweet. He just wants me cell so he an probably text me for homework help, or something."
She sighed. "Gimme that." She snatched my iPhone out of my hands and before I could stop here, she typed something and threw me back my phone.
"Ah!" I gasped. "What did you say?"
She laughed. "I just replied to him."
Looking at Twitter, I gasped again.

RosySpade: @HunterForce im happy you found me. we should play hide and seek more often. ;)

 "Mio!"
"I also DMed him you cell number. You can thank me later,"
I giggled. "Thank you? More like kill you!" But before I could begin my assault, Mio pinned be to the bed and started tickling me.
Laughing like a mad man, I managed to get out, "Mio, Mio, stop! I can't take anymore!" Curse God for giving me a too-damn-sensitive body.
The door opened. Rina walked in and raised an perfectly-plucked eyebrow. "I left my phone. Sorry to interrupt."
I quickly viewed Mio and I from Rina's point of view. "Wait, no, we were just-"
Rina walked out and closed the door.
I scrambled to get Mio off me. "Come on," I said quickly. "Let's go grab a snack from the dining hall."
A sad shadow passed over her face so quickly, I think I imagined it. "Alright!" she said in her usual perky voice. "I'm totally in the mood for a power bar."
Maybe we'd see Hunter on the way...

Sorry I took so long! I had a wedding to attend to, and a family holiday thing, and a major case of writer's block. It kinda shows in here, haha.

Whoa. This is set in Japan? I must have missed that part earlier. I thought the Vanessa Carlton reference was a little unnecessary. I could definitely be wrong about this, but it seemed like you included her because she was your favorite artist, and it was just a little tidbit that had no real place in the story. It got too cliche for me in some parts, but overall, another enjoyable chapter.
