My Eyes are Windows

My Eyes are Windows

A Poem by Daniel Pace

My eyes are windows between my reality and the world's and others. I'm standing outside the window looking into the reality of the world and the people in it. I can see all the people I know. I can see the real motives, thoughts, and feelings behind the mask they wear. These masks hide their true feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. These masks protect them from other thoughts and judgments about them. She smiles, but inside she wants to cry, because her friends don’t know her father hits her. He acts tough and a REAL gangster, but he is saddened by his brother death and scared of his own death. The masks they wear might fool others, but not me. I can see past them, because I stand between my reality and the world's and their. Having this is a blessing as well as a curse. How do I get back? How do I get back to the reality of the world and my own? How do I leave this empty blank place? I don't know, so I sit alone and lose in this nowhere land, as my body continues to travel through life, in a world that seems alien to it, because my spirit to guide it through life.
