The Legacy Chain pt3A Story by Shawn StClairNot really sure what Im doing with this, but at least Im writing. Here in part 3 we find out a little more about Zora and the troubles she has yet to face.
The air tasted red as Zora sat her mother down to eat her supper. Zora sighed, knowing what the wave of anger meant so she turned to face it. Gregor was one of the communities warrior watchers who kept the war outside from finding his people hidden below the cities depths. He was strong and well built, blue-black waist length black hair tied in a single braid. A few years older the Zora he had had his sights on her since they were little and ignored the fact that Zora nearly hated him. Chest sparkling with sweat, leather pants damp he looked as if he had just returned from exploring duty.
"Zora. Why haven't you tested yet?" he asked, reaching for her. Zora slapped his hand away from her, his anger infecting her.
"Because I have been busy, and I don't have to for another 2 days." she retorted, taking a step away she felt the table press into her backside.
"You cannot avoid me for much longer." Gregor said as he closed the distance, "I will claim you as mine and none will challenge me."
Red hot anger flooded through Zora, balling her fists she lashed out instinctively. Gregor stepped out of range and backhanded her across the face. She spun with the force, landing face down half on and half off the table. She felt the heat of his body press against her and she shuddered with revulsion.
"As I said, you will be mine so you better prepare yourself." Gregor whispered in her ear.
There was a flurry of movement and Gregor's weight left Zora before she heard a crashing sound. Zora lifted her head and found her mother, standing with her hand in the air palm out. Gregor's body came to rest among the debris of a nearby table, the air knocked out of his lungs for a moment.
"You will show respect in this hall or you will leave the Hall Gregor." Elder Toma said quietly before turning back to her seat and winking at her daughter. Zora sighed her thanks and helped her sit once more.
Gregor stood quickly but did not say anything. Dusting himself off he settled on glaring at Zora and letting the wave of emotions he knew she could feel tell her future as his wife.
Zora's fear and anger mixed with Gregor's flooding her mind with conflict. Others in the room feared him as well and her impending maturity caused Zora to feel everyones emotions at the same time. Normally she could escape to her quarters, but Gregor's added feelings of desire and rage flooded her mind as he knew it would. Zora tried to steady herself by grasping the table as the cacophony washed over and into her.
"M-m-mother?" was all she could manage as her mind sought a hiding place from all that she saw. Zora's body shuddered as Elder Toma rose once more and caught her before she hit the floor.
"Radcliff, Timber, help me with her." Elder Toma asked, shaking her head to Gregor as he tried to move forward. The two older men nodded and gently picked up Zora's unconscious form. "Take her to our quarters if you please. Gregor, find Healer Van and request his presence immediately." It wasn't a request and Gregor knew to not disobey. Elder Toma nodded after he had gone. "These kids." she muttered and the two men smiled knowingly.
