I Dare You

I Dare You

A Poem by Heidi Hallucination

I had witnessed something

I wish I never did

A death

Right before my eyes

Now I fall to the floor in shock

Looking at the man

Who had shot this unknown woman

Now it was my punishment

" Stand up."

He left his finger on the trigger

" You wouldn't." I lowered my tone.

He grinned an evil grin

Like one on a chesire cat

Like the smile of a murder

You wouldn't dare shoot me

You wouldn't dare to kill me

" Pull the trigger I dare you."

Hoping he would let me go

But I had a gut feeling he wouldn't

BANG

I couldn't feel my legs

I couldn't see the sky

I tryed to speak but I couldn't

I think i'm dead

If I was dead I would see God

What happens now then?

Narrative poems can be really interesting... whittling a story down to it's bare elements. If this is the speaker's last moment though, I wonder if the details would be more vivid... what the body looked like, impressions of the killer... is the killer taking on a supernatural aura as someone who has power over life and death? Is it a person, or a shadow?
