WHY

WHY

A Poem by Lovesmylife
"

I am proud of my son for having the strength to understand that not all persons are bad that things do happen and he must move forward.

"

Why

Why he said as he entered the room.

A boy of sixteen who has seen so much to soon.

Here was a child I remember back when.

Full of energy, innocence, and loving life to no end.

Now, Now, Now, I stare at him from my kitchen seat.

I myself am full of anger for today I again weeped.

This boy he has grown up already into a man.

Only because of our society and the images and messages it always sends.

As I reflect back on the past few years.

As my eyes fill up with my mother tears.

My son lost his innocence at the age of six.

From seeing the images of the tragic 911 events.

Thats when the innocence up and went.

Thats when the first "Why" question came.

Again, I tried my hardest to find the right words to say.

Overwhelmed from the pain

I  don't remember anything else about that day.

Then again not to long after that very day

He soon found that his cousin

took his own life one day.

How do answer the question again.

"Why,oh why, is my cousin now dead"?

Then in the same year

My eyes again filled with tears

Just after Thanksgiving  night.

I had to again sit down with my son.

I had to tell him that his best friend was

murdered and was dead.

I know people will be shocked that I had to say that.

But, I knew by the time he would enter his school

the news he would hear that it was a fact.

So, what do you tell a parent again to say to her son.

I have now become such an expert so sad that this is true.

I simple say to him the world has many people who are so angry

and blue.   Until we face the facts and get them some help for their

problems too, then the bad things will not come, and the evil will be done.

this is incredibly blunt and poignant but it needs to be so for the very reasons you so plainly state within. i cannot imagine the courage and the strength it takes to explain these events to a child. this write is so touching and yet, demonstrative of coping with a perverted and painful world. well done!
