I ran away today

I ran away today

A Poem by Megan Wylder

I am 5,
And I ran away today.
Forever to gather dust under the teenage bed of who I am now.
Stealing all her hopes and dreams.
All her fairytale endings and stories of forever more.

I am 5,
But I am also not real.
The made up part of a messed up girl.
I am the spark inside her eyes that kept her dreaming.
The very smile she clung to, I was.

I am 5,
And I ran away.
Lost to the one person who needed me the most.
Myself.
