Only Dreams

Only Dreams

A Poem by Megan Wylder

Keep me safe inside my dreams,

The only shred of sanity I have left now.

Your voice my lullaby humming in the background of my nightmare,

As "our" song keeps the real demons at bay.

No more do you really protect me,

Yet your cold blue eyes still watch me sleep.

In the blissfulness I weep out in tears.

We are us again, so perfectly together.

Every hour seeming too early to wake from slumber.

Even as the day grows old, my  eyes flutter to keep open.

My sweetest dream lost at the first hint of restlessness,

And pointless is it to hold on,

For tonight it will pass my un-waking visions once again.

Your words playing like a never ending stream,

Your eyes piercing like a dagger threw the heart.

You, will do nothing but leave me with empty words,

Chatter to keep a distance, a line drawn to protect us both,

And I, will go on living each day, wanting only the memories of us, and You.

Such an emotionally powerful piece, moving through beauty and the bittersweet echo of love that retreats like snow in the shadows... Brilliant...
