Chapter Two

Chapter Two

A Chapter by LoveTheNameJason

“Did I ever tell you that you’re just so, just so…boring,” said Jon as he crashed on my bed with a can of Coke. “If you spill that on my bed I swear I’ll-,” I tried to say but he interrupted me. “What’s this?” He picked up my journal that I had written so many pages in it ever since fifth grade, and now mostly about Nick. “Give it!” I yelled and jumped on top of him, struggling to get the notebook back. His arms were longer than mine and as my attempts of getting it back failed, he started reading it.

I was too late, his eyebrows had furrowed as he sat up. When he did sit up, I snatched it out of his hands and stood up straight. He stood up, too and looked at me as if I was a stranger. “You never told me you liked Nick, Mila,” he had a rough tone in his voice. At that moment I was scared; scared of losing a best friend. “I never told anyone Jon; I was simply scared,” I explained. I didn’t dare make any eye contact; my eyes were focused on my hands.

He sighed and came closer. “You know he’s a snobby jock, right?” He asked. I glanced at his blue eyes, which broke my heart. A sign of hope filled them; hope that I was kidding. Jon was afraid that someday I’d become one of the popular kids and leave him. I didn’t think I was pretty enough, nor rich enough. But in his eyes I was perfect. I was never ever planning on leaving him, and never will. But I can’t help my feelings for Nick. What was I supposed to do? Is this how a person feels when…they are in love?

“Jon, you know it will never be between Nick and I, and I’ll be a cat lady for the rest of my life,” I joked. He chuckled; it was nice seeing him smile again. It relieved a whole lot. “Now come on, I’m starving!” I grabbed his hand and pulled him downstairs to the kitchen; I could smell the lasagna from a mile away. I handed him a plastic plate and opened the fridge, looking around for soda. I threw a can of soda at him, knowing he would catch it; he’s the athletic kind. He did catch it, and started moon walking to the table. He always makes me giggle.

I followed him with the box of pizza. I gave him the smallest piece just to see his reaction, just so he could make me laugh again. “What! I’m going to protest!” He took the broom and shook it in the air. I couldn’t help but laugh. He took the box and replaced his piece with one that was five times bigger. “Now that’s more like it,” he added. I smiled and took a small piece for me. I’m always cautious about what to eat. Sometimes that’s bad for my health though, because I never eat enough. Also, Mr. Smarty Pants over there teases me about it.

I laughed as I watched him stuff the whole pizza into his mouth. He was such a little weirdo. “I think we should go for a walk after this,” he said, with his half swallowed food. I gulped in disgust and simply nodded. It only takes him a few seconds to finish; that’s because he stuffs the whole thing in his mouth! And it’s not too pleasing to see. “I love pizza,” he said as he wiped off the sauce on his face. “Now let’s go!” He hopped off his wooden chair and ran outside. “Wait for me!” I slipped on my shoes and ran after him.

As I finally caught up to him, he looked back at me with a smirk and said, “Hey, Mila?” I looked up at him. “Yeah?” I asked. “I dare you to ding dong ditch that house!” He said, childishly and pointed at a giant blue house. That house seemed familiar for some reason, but I wasn’t going to disobey a dare! I ran up to the door and rang the doorbell. The scent of the house froze me completely. This was Nick’s house. It was already too late to run when him, himself had answered the door. He flipped his hair, the same way pop star sensation and d****e, Justin Bieber would. Nick was a d****e, but he was such a hot d****e. It could almost make you melt.

“Yes?” He asked with irritation. “I-Uh, I wanted to talk to Mrs. Sanders,” I lied. “MOM!” He yelled at the top of his lungs, causing me to jump. “Yes?” She answered. “Mila’s here, she wants to talk to you!” He yelled once again. But what surprised me was the fact that he remembered my name! “Let her in!” She yelled. He opened the door, enough for me to fit through. I had a bad feeling but I couldn’t skip my once in a life time opportunity. I had an excuse made up in my brain. Since I walk her dog, maybe I could just tell her that I came here to excuse myself from Monday’s shift. I’m going to the writer’s con anyway.

I walked in as he crashed on the couch right. He looked at me and tapped on the spot behind him, on the couch. I felt like my heart stopped beating as I sat down. What scared me even more that Jon’s head was popping out from behind the bushes. “So what did you want to talk to my mom about?” He asked as he bit into his apple. I could feel my cheeks heat up. “About walking the dogs…” I simply answered making no eye contact at all. “Oh that’s right, you’re going on vacation,” he said.

“So Mila, what’s up?” His mother, Mrs. Sanders, startled me. I jumped up quickly and glanced at her. She was dressed so fancily. “I can’t walk the Sparkle and Cliff on Monday,” I explained. She stopped and thought for a second. “Well, I need a favor of you then,” she said. I nodded, waiting for her to continue. “Can you babysit Mikey, my seven year old, because Nick almost burned him alive last time I went out,” she asked. “Uh, okay,” I blabbered out, not even thinking about anything else. I just wanted to stay here, with Nick. “May I make a phone call first? I forgot my phone at home,” I said. “Here,” Nick handed me his IPhone. I was literally going crazy inside. Why was he being so nice to me?

I walked outside for a minute with his phone. Jon was gone; where could he have gone? So I called him; knowing his phone number by heart. “Hello?” I said into the phone, as soon as he picked up. “I can’t believe you!” He yelled making me back the phone away from my ear. “What was I supposed to do?” I yelled back in frustration. “Run!” And at that he hung up in my face. I felt so bad! But, I have to babysit for Mrs. Sanders, I owe her! I sighed and walked back in to see Mikey and Nick fighting. I didn’t know what to do so I just placed his phone on the table and took a seat.

Watching them fight wasn’t the brightest idea, since Mrs. Sanders just left leaving me in charge. I can handle it; well at least I think I can. But soon enough they got to me. “Shut up!” I yelled at them. They both stared at me with their giant blue eyes. “Now Mikey you go finish your homework!” I ordered. “But I don’t want to-,” he tried to say. “Go now!” I yelled. He stormed to his room. I finally caught a breath of silence. The think that scared me was that Nick was still staring at me.

-Nick’s POV-

Wow. I’ve never seen Mikey behave so properly with a stranger around. Is she some sort of miracle worker? I think she should live here, so I wouldn’t have to deal with Mikey. I mean look at her. She’s so shy and little, sitting there writing something. I walked up to her and popped my head over her shoulder, without her knowing. She was writing a poem, and she was damn good. She must have felt my heavy breathing because she turned around and looked at me.

“You’re really good,” I complimented. She covered her paper in embarrassment and thanked me. She hopped off the wooden chair and opened the front door. “Where are you going?” I wondered. “Just to get some air,” she walked out. I followed her and closed the door behind us. She sat on the first step and glanced over her work. I sat next to her; her cheeks turned a bright shade of red.

“I heard you were a good writer, too,” she commented. I looked down at my blue Supra shoes. “Yeah, but it kind of ruins my rep, you know?” I said. She sighed and crumpled up the paper, and put it in her pocket. She stood up and walked inside. Smooth Nick, you’re so good with the ladies. “Damn,” I mumbled. She was hard to get. I walked back in but she wasn’t there. I heard Mikey’s blabbering behind me. I turned to see Mila holding his hand, about to walk out.

“I’m taking Mikey to get a treat because he was a good boy,” she said. “Does that make me a bad boy?” I asked. She covered Mikey’s ears and said, “More off an a*s.” My jaw dropped, and my blue eyes got ten times bigger. Did she just call me an a*s? No girl even dares to say that! She pulled Mikey out and I followed her, yet again. “If it makes you feel any better, I’m going to a writer’s con during Spring break,” I tried to make the situation better. I started to walk beside her.

She stopped walking and froze. “The one in Georgia?” She asked. “Yeah,” I answered. She looked at me with shock. “I’m going there with my friends,” she said, flatly. Why do I have a feeling of excitement in me now? I feel like I’m going to be happy since she’s going to be there. But why is that? She’s only cute; but there’s something about her that makes any guy interested. “That’s cool,” I looked at my feet. “Can I borrow your phone?” She asked. I nodded and handed it to her.

She typed in some numbers and held the phone up to her ear. “Hey, to make it up to you, would you like to come to the Friendly’s on Main Street? My treat! Awesome, okay bye!” And at that she hung up and handed the phone to me. “Who was that?” I asked. “My friend Jon; I hope you don’t mind if he joins us,” she said. It is weird but I feel slightly jealous. I nodded my head.

When we arrived at Friendly’s a boy with black hair and blue eyes was standing there, leaning back on his car. He was in black skinny jeans and a plain blue shirt. He somehow reminded me of the person who played Percy Jackson. As soon as he noticed Mila he smiled. Mila ran up to him and hugged him. He spun her around with a giant smile; that is until he saw me. “Jon this is Nick and his brother Mikey,” she said with a fake smile. Jon had already attacked me with his stares. It seems like he claims Mila his. Well, two can play at that game.

“Let us go in,” I demanded and started to walk. They followed and we all sat down at a table. “So Mila you should tell him,” I said as I looked through the menu. Jon’s eyes shot up at me. He no longer had a smile on. “What news?” He spat out. Mila hesitated to say, “Uh, Nick is uh going to the convention, too,” she explained. First he was shocked, then he was plain angry. I wanted to smirk so very badly. He stood up and pulled Mila to the side. I couldn’t what they were saying but they were obviously arguing. He obviously liked her. Why would he be fighting so badly for her if not?

My phone buzzed in my pocket. It was a text from mom saying she will be arriving in a few minutes. This meant we had to go home. I went over to Mila and excused myself, and left. As I walked home, I felt bad for her. Guilt spread through me. I thought if I mess would Jon he’d get a bit amusing to watch. I didn’t think he would take it out on Mila. Oh well, I make it up for her tomorrow. I have something special planned.
