Gathering

Gathering

A Chapter by Louis McKraker

Nothing inspires hope

Quit as well as the demise of a hero

The doves will fly

And the story will be told for miles and miles around

People will gather close at the sight

Of his wounds, and how they stained the ground

Many of them will choose a side

Those who don’t will have a side chosen for them

Some will gather to pray

Some will gather to weep

Some will have something to say

Others will vow to hold their peace

Books will be written, books will be burned

And songs will be sang,

The waters will rise high above the bridges

And towers will fall in the name

Of the one who died that day

The flames will arch from the tongues of the ones

Who swear that they had seen his face

And his death, it will have been in vain

And left to rot by the very people who say they uphold his name

The fires will rage

And the smoke will be seen

For miles and miles around

And people will gather close,

Bleeding from each others wounds

Many will gather to pray

Many will gather to weep

Some will play for sport

Others will play for keep
