Lips I've Kissed Before

Lips I've Kissed Before

A Poem by Laura Kate

Someone kissed me last night
familiar warmth,
wet lips
and a silhouette which I recognised

his outline leaned towards me
I looked for him where his eyes would be
seeing only vast spaces of darkness

- I know you... I know you ...

hesitant fingers ran through his hair
tight curls on the base of his neck
unassuming hands took hold of his head

- I know this hair

he found form in the shape of his lips
pressing them softly on mine
eyes closed I joined in his infinite space

- I've kissed these lips before

the warmth of his caress engulfed
my skin from lips to finger tips
he welcomed me deeper under his layers

- I've been here before

a vacuum of space, no sound, no thing
just flutters of light, tingling motions
and burning stars which gave the skin goosebumps

- I've been lost in you before

sitting beside me on the picnic bench
I still couldn't see who he was
only the universe he held for me within him

- I've loved you before
