Lantern in the DarkA Poem by Laura KateIt was so beautiful the way you moved your body to mine that endless night you could have taken my life away and I’d have forgiven you so many tears have escaped my eyes I’m not even sure why they still come tears because I loved you tears because you left me tears because I remember your smell sweat collecting on your skin and your voice the voice that was a lantern in the dark I never knew where to until I heard that sound escape your mouth step by step my path began to lay itself down before me as I lay myself down to your sound to your mouth to you your smell still lingers in my clothes like the love I have for you the memories of long nights such little sleep a thousand good mornings with nothing but sweat and the warmest of depths between us you switched off the lantern's light I lost my where to and the nights once again my own reaching through the night I seek the other side listening for the light waiting and wondering why I still cry © 2021 Laura KateFeatured Review
