Purple Heaven

Purple Heaven

A Poem by Laura Kate

Do you remember where I took you?
I held your hand and lead you down
the path of glittering rays
each one reflecting onto the
blush-pink roses towering above.

We stopped to pick the daisies
"he loves me, he loves me not"

Over the red-brick walls the Robins
fluttered their wings and leaped
from stone to stone,
their songs of sweet honey and dewdrops
sailed beneath our feet
as we skipped our way home.

You were so happy,
I couldn't' wait to show you the way.

It was warm and comfortable inside
we made blankets out of each other's skin
finding pockets of warmth and bliss
with our cold noses and an eskimo kiss.

You said you were
in heaven
no-one had taken you before.

Do you remember the stream where the
stones skimmed under the apple trees?
Leaves detached and settled down onto the ground
caressing bright apples of bulging red-blood,
dressing our bare feet in gold.

We stripped naked and surrendered to the water
allowed our breath to be taken by translucent shimmers
you held me close, so cold were my fingers
I held you tight between elbows and knees.

I kissed your red cheeks
my lips were still blue
we sent purple currents to the sea.

You towered over me like the mountains of Atlas
I submitted to the dark shadows of your presence.
Only God could see the other side.

Every now and then, you took me to the skies,
Blackness of heavenly delights
sometimes I even saw shooting stars.
Once, I went sailing past the moon.

You always held my hand on the way back down,
making sure I felt safe and not alone
- do you remember?

Naked we were, kept warm only by our bodies
of gasping hearts and burning blood.

Tell me, do you remember where you took me?
I do.
Though blackness turned to blindness
once all the stars had fallen
I tried to help you see
but you refused to find the way,

Do you remember where I took you?
I do.
Though you no longer care for the roses
or the robins,
for the apples,
nor the stream.

Don't you remember where we turned the waters purple?

You said you were
in heaven.

Dear Laura, so lovely to find you back here posting. This is a gorgeous write of beautiful memories and how it feels to be in total togetherness. That's how it is when we find that special person, but then after time often the roses fade. It sounds as though someone needs a gentle reminder. Lovely work.Beautiful imagery.

You are welcome dear poet :)
and from "Purple Heaven" comes a Purple Rain...
"we made blankets out of each other's skin"----that line is so creative...I wish I had said that.
Sending purple currents to the sea...Such a sad reflection...when someone no longer cares for robins, apples or the stream...how can one just forget...those days of heaven, the love that once was, the one that fell like Purple rain from the purple heaven.
Beautiful, sad poem, Laura.

Amazing use of words my dear friend. I liked the honest tone and the flow of thoughts leading to hard and true ending.
"Don't you remember where we turned the waters purple?
You said you were
in heaven."
Perfect ending to the outstanding poetry.
