Love was never meant for me

Love was never meant for me

A Poem by Laura Kate

I missed out on love
it wasn't there for me

I took several detours
that all bought me back to the main road

maps turned upside down
still brought me round in the same direction

I even went right back to the start
back to where I came from

thought maybe southern hearts
couldn't stand the cold

but by the time I returned
all hearts in the north were frozen

love was never there for me
it never made me a priority

never looked into my eyes like I was the only one in the world
the only one who mattered

love was never waiting for me
I kept wondering did I miss it, again?

waited far too long for the late bus to show
but everyone else managed to make it home

everyone else must have left early, so I thought
but It was only me in the end, who was late

love didn't wait for me
I was looking in all the wrong places

bought all the wrong tickets
stood at all the wrong platforms

it left me stranded on the other side of the bridge
with an upside down map in my hand

the station clock was broken
and the signs had been spun around

everyone else went in the opposite direction
love was never meant for me

now love looks at me with a broken heart
as if I could be its second chance

but I never got a shot at the first
love was never meant for me

I was on the wrong platforms as well.
But mainly I think I wasn't meant for love...screwed it up enough times you would think I were
Taylor Swift....breaking up just to write poems.
Oh God, Laura...
Let's take another look at that map, if I can get it rightside up.

This is the height of imagination when writing about love & heartache. This topic is so thoroughly written about, it's hard to come up with something THIS original. This is what is meant by turning a broken heart into art. This actually describes my life, unmarried at 64. I'm very independent & I'm happy love wasn't in the cards for me, but there were times when I felt very washed up & left behind. Your poem expresses this with such good humor, it almost feels tongue-in-cheek, how I would describe my own life, like I'm bellyaching but deep down I'm glad about it. Top notch writing that's fun to read (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Really enjoyed reading this poem. I could feel the struggle of not knowing were to find love and questioning whether u missed the opportunity of experiencing it. I especially enjoyed the lines

"thought maybe southern hearts
couldn't stand the cold

but by the time I returned
all hearts in the north were frozen"

Anyway thanks for sharing
