I strived to find

the boy inside

to tell him that he is loved, 

but the man in you

saw what he went through 

and knows that love ain't enough.

something inside that never grows up...the pain of the past is something we hold onto even as we age.
If only we could let go...because it is hard for the man to override the feelings and love both as the boy and the man.

I understand it must be difficult, and experience is different for everyone. Your comment is interesting because it flips the perspective, for the man to be able to love as the boy and the man, and for his partner to love both parts of him too.

The real shame was that he couldn't accept I loved him, and eventually fought me out of it. Told me it was I who couldn't love, made me doubt myself for a while. I really tried to help him, but it wasn't my lesson to learn I suppose.
