Full circle

Full circle

A Poem by Laura Kate

I feel that I have just met myself;
the first time really seeing me
for who I am
and knowing
that this is truly me.

It's as if I have gone full circle;
one around the size of planet Earth,
smoothing out all of the bumps on the way,
and re-joining myself at the top.

I see it all now,
from the top of my circle.
I know who I am, and what I'm to do
which excites me
and scares me
in equal measure.

What if I can't
or don't have the means
to stay on top of my circle?

We have one chance of life
on this planet
as we know it.

There are no second chances here
- isn't that the greatest life lesson of all?

So one day I will be gone,
and when my time on this planet is over
I won't be standing on any side of my circle.
I will be outside of it
somewhere
in the collective cosmos,
looking at the circles of other planets
from outside.

The Earth will still be here,
won't it?
