Lament to the Chatrooms

Lament to the Chatrooms

A Poem by Caitlyn Murphy
"

One day, I logged on YIM to discover that, after the User Created Rooms had been gone for over a year, all the normal chatrooms were down. I'm a role-player and this was devastating. To make me feel better, my muse beat me with that frying pan of hers.

"

And so we raise a candle,

To that which fell in vain.

To role-play and all chat rooms,

Who were by Yahoo slain.

Where are we to go now?

What are we to do?

When boredom looks at one of us

And declares, “Oh, I want you”?

We’ve lost our place of gath’ring

We’ve lost our common ground.

It slipped away so silently.

It died without a sound.

Perhaps we lost the funding

Of the sodas and the cars.

Or maybe Yahoo’s cleaning

Our out-of-character bars.

All I know is that they’re gone now.

For now, they’re laid to rest.

So we that live must battle

With boredom at its best.

And so we raise that candle

High and proud and true

In hopes of safe return for rooms

That we might be saved, too.
