Dear You...A Story by Harley Destiny Jean DurstDear you.
She sat there, a broken mess and trying not to break down. Her stomach went into knots and her heart hurt. She wanted to scream and cry but she wouldn't. She put on a smile for everyone. When she was alone, that's when it came out... She knew he'd never see it, but she grabbed a pen and paper and began to write...
"Dear, you... You made me happier than I've ever been. You gave me reasons to smile and you made me laugh when I didn't want to. You made me fall when all I wanted was to stand on the ledge away from it all. You made me feel safe and loved. You made me feel like I could do anything and not fear failing. You made my demons calm and put my thoughts at ease. You made my angels sing. You made my heart race and you made my smile real. When you'd touch me, you would make me shiver. When we'd hug, I never wanted to let go. You were mine for but a short while and I will forever cherish the time I had with you. Even though we have gone our separate ways and I understand why, I will forever wonder "What if?" I will forever hold that in the back of my head. I know I'll move on one day and I'll find someone else. I know I won't think of you quite as much as I do. I won't always wonder if you're okay or what you're doing or even if you miss me like I do you. But as for now, I wish I could feel your embrace one more time. Hear your voice once more, make you laugh and smile once more. I wish I didn't want to break down while writing this but I do, honestly and that cannot be helped. And I know you'll probably never see this but I want to thank you for everything you did. You showed me how sweet someone can be. How loving and gentle another being can be. That someone actually can return the way I feel about them. You taught me that I should give people a chance. You taught me so much more but in the end, we weren't meant to remain friends. Thank you for everything you did, it means a lot. Sincerely, Me" She put down the pen and read over what she wrote a couple times. As she finished it the last time, a tear fell from her face. She bit on her lower lip and folded up the paper only to tuck it away to a safe place under her bed. She then buried her face into her pillow and let it out. She couldn't take the pain anymore. © 2016 Harley Destiny Jean Durst |
