CHAPTER TWO - THE UNEXPECTED... ACCIDENT?!A Chapter by L.L. Lilya sudden turn of events...April jerked up,
kicking the bed sheets off her feet glancing on the alarm clock by her bedside.
The clock ticked, “Eight o’clock!” she beamed dashing out of her bed and onto
the bathroom. She can’t believe
she overslept, she swore she had set the alarm early, but what made it worst
was her father hadn’t woken her up. She was running out
of time, if she rinsed herself quickly and with all her strength run to school
as fast as she can, she would arrive to there with five minutes to spare. Gnawing on the book
bag on her mouth, she tied her silky long chocolate brown hair high up at the
back of her head ready to dash out the front door when she passed by her
father’s room. His door was slightly open without any sign of life and light. Peaking
inside, she found him still sound asleep in the dark depths of his quarters. “Oh Officer
McDaniel’s...” She whispered shaking her head disapprovingly as she headed out
of the front door of their vanilla and strawberry coated home, leaving the man
undisturbed. Unlike most officers he had the luxury of getting to work whenever
he please due to the fact that he was a legend. She glanced on her
watched, at this rate she’d be late and even running won’t do. If she called a
cab, she’d arrive there even later seeing how the taxi service in their town
took their sweet time arriving. Thinking over what
she would do, she had decided to run over to school. Unlike her father, she was
rather weak when it came to physical endurance. Her head was still pounding
chaotically, her breath was unsteady and because she was in a rush everything
around her was misplaced: stray strands of her hair was puffing out of her
head, her uniform wasn’t ironed beforehand and so it was wrinkled, her shirt
buttons were uneven, and her socks were mismatched. She was a few blocks
away from school she had to cross over to the other side to get there. Like her
father said whenever crossing the road, she had looked from left and right. Seeing
everything around her was safe, she had crossed over hurriedly unaware of the
incoming car hurling towards her. April flinched in
the middle of the road, staring at the incoming vehicle. Her feet were
unexpectedly heavy and she couldn’t move.
She was so close to colliding with the car when it halted nearly hitting
her entire entity. She fell on her knees, shocked and weeping loudly. The
driver got down to comfort her, looking up she had identified him as her worst
nightmare, Johan Gibson. “You?” she bawled
burying her head on his chest, soaking his shirt with her tears. “Are you alright?
Can you walk?” his tone of voice was incomparable to what she’d usually hear;
he sounded more of sincerely worried. Seeing how scared she was he had carried
her into the passenger’s seat of his car, driving her to the nearest clinic. Traumatized by the
earlier incident, the clinician advised her to stay there for the time being
until they give her the all clear signal after further examination. They had
given her a narcotic having her fall asleep in an instant. Johan sat beside
her, squeezing her hand as she calmly dozed off. Although in her eyes he was a
bully who liked to tease her, he had a soft side of him, which she had never
seen before. While she was asleep, he had watched over her, admiring the
teenage beauty, with his expression soft and filled with outmost sincerity and
apology. April felt a sudden
shift of movement beside her, slowly opening her eyes she found nothing besides
a foreign room and an annoying beeping machine with tube sticking out on her
arm. Her arm was numb, but the familiar warmth on her palms had remained. She
knew she wasn’t alone moment’s ago, and she knew that whoever it was that had
brought her there was probably someone she knew. Chills ran down her
spine, she always had Goosebumps whenever she was in the ghostly quarters of a
hospital. She was close to having a mental breakdown when, a light knock came
from the metal door of the room, and woman in a white nurse uniform had entered
smiling sweetly as she laid a tray on the shelf beside her bedside. “Are you feeling
well Miss McDaniel?” her angelic voice rang softly in April’s ears; she was
short and young and just like her heavenly voice looked perfect like an angel. “How did I get
here?” April questioned trying to sit up but failed to do so with the sudden pain
surging inside her. “Please don’t move
too much, rest for a while we had given you a narcotic, you’ll feel a little
hazy and sore.” She reassured patting her hand as she sat on the edge of her
bed. “Are you looking for your boyfriend?” April’s eyes widened
she had no boyfriend, nor did she have a friend. She was always a loner who did
well observing others and expressed her emotions through her work of art.
“Boyfriend, I don’t have a boyfriend.” She let out, grimacing in pain. “He’s not your
boyfriend? He was really worried about you he was here moments ago watching
over you.” “What was his name?”
“He didn’t say, he
was wearing the same school uniform tag as you from Prada High School, he was charming,
had short spikey hazel brown hair, slightly muscular, baby faced with a harsh
tone of voice.” “Johan?” she
whispered doubting the thought. “He didn’t want to
say his name, when you were rushed to the emergency room, he only gave out your
info saying whoever he was didn’t matter. We had contacted your father he would
be here right away.” “The guy who brought
me here, is he still here?” “He just left
moments ago you want me to look for him?” “No it’s alright. It
would be troublesome, I’m sorry I troubled you, you must be really busy.” “My job is to make
sure our patients is alright, so don’t apologize.” April thanked the
woman who had excused herself and faced the other side of her bed deep in
thought. Could it be Johan? She doubt it, he wouldn’t do such a thing, bringing
her to the clinic and most importantly stay by her side. Maybe after almost
ramming her, he left her there to die and someone with a good heart saved her…
but even so, there was a little part of her believing that he might have saved
her. Mr. McDaniel’s burst
into the room, with a worried expression tainted on his face. He dashes towards
his daughter inspecting every bone of its existence. April pulled back with an
irritable expression. “Relax dad, it’s not like I’ve broken a bone, I’m fine.”
She dismissed squeezing his hand reassuringly. “It’s my fault I should
have seen you off before you left home.” “You were pretty
tired dad I didn’t want to bother you.” “Who did this?” “The nurse said that
he didn’t want to say his name or show his face, but I have a lead that he’s
someone from my school.” “Well he’d better
make sure I don’t track him down,” Mr. McDaniel’s half joked recharging the
bullet of his pistol, “And to think today would be a good time for our dinner.” “We could continue
it.” “No, you can’t even
get up. You’ll be staying here until you are fully healed.” “I was just shocked
that’s all, I didn’t even get hit.” “It’s good to be
safe Princess.” Mr. McDaniel’s said planting a kiss on her forehead, stroking
her hair as he lay beside her. His love for his
daughter was deep, and he can’t afford to lose something so precious. He
promised his wife he’d protect her and raise her well, but after the incident,
he felt that he was not worthy to become her father. © 2013 L.L. LilyAuthor's Note
