Sed Nec VirtuteA Poem by Gianni RodriguezI got the inspiration for this poem while listening to Power by Kanye West. Despite the rap inspiration this poem consist of a darker, artistic tone. His lust for power Is what got him this far He gained great power By sipping the blood From his victim’s Battle scars Raised in the ranks With more speed Then a crashing shooting star Lost his humanity Sold his soul For a million gold bars Fire and blood was left In the trail he blazed Destroying the own land He yearned to rule one day Disregarded all his wrongs Made it his victim’s fault Found justice in a system Of crooks and paid off cops Never able to find pleasure In all that was good For the corruption of power Stole his heart The journey to the top Tore his innocence apart But when he reached the top His lust for power did not stop And in his mind he had What to a sane man Would have been a disturbing thought He had power of people He had an empire under his complete control But he thought it was unfair that the power Over his on death was God’s to hold “Why does God get to decide when I go” He thought to himself when he was taking his nightly stroll “The time of my death should be chosen by me It should be my call when the world is mind to leave It is my breath flowing through my body I should pick when it should cease” Then he made a choice that so many power fiends make He hung himself from the tallest piller of his palace In an attempt to take Gods place And in his hand he held a note that said, “I now have obtained Absolute power, my death was No mistake, I gained complete power When I decided my life was my own to take” © 2011 Gianni Rodriguez |
