Growing Up

Growing Up

A Poem by Lockedheart

She woke up with the sun
warming her bed
she got drunk the night before
there was a pounding in her head
without a doubt
she'd try to tune it out
but she knew the real truth
thats not what It was about
this wasn't something new
it was normal for her to do
she'd do it every night
to try to somehow be alright
then she's up till 4 am again
thinking about all her old best friends
the ones she'll never see again
they all grew apart in the end
is this really growing up
she'd always been mature
but this isn't what she expected
isn't what she'd hoped for

life is constant evolution and we are swept up by it. Some may cling to the river's edge refusing to change while those around them do. Looking back at a time where everyone moved slowly in the same direction together because they were guided by a love of one another. But time always offers new love for each individual to feel and find. Do not cling to the rocks of sorrow and melancholy wishing for the past. Let go and accept the tide forward. Brave the new. And accept the many ways of love that will come into your life and change you. Thank you for sharing your moving poem with us.
