The Haunt
By: Lorraine Pearson
July 31, 2008

Walking in my present-
Steps, which parallel my past
Waltzing gingerly I fear,
With ghosts of my unrest…
Into another moment when
I'd rather turn and run
Instead each day I find myself
In ghastly stares with one…
But memories are memories
Though haunting as they seem,
There are lessons I can use from them
Empowering my being!
Fear may arrive at first with fright
Anxiety will threaten,
I must stay strong- remain aware,
These ghosts can be my friends.

Must say I love those lines as we must try and learn from those mistakes we make instead of letting them hold us back... very powerful piece my friend.

when soemthing arouse in us nightmares of the abyss then through our re-living the "nightmares" we kinda deal with the primary unsolved situation from the past, you are right - they could be your friends, when we find a way to defeat them, I like this thought and short realization of it.

The reference of 'ghosts' as 'memories' was wonderfully written. Yes, we do need them to recall up when our soul's are unsettled.

Your moment of 'trial' shows through on this piece. I understand your plight; however, your words reflect your inner strength as well.

You are a strong woman...survival against all odds seems to be your trademark. I applaud you.

Here I was expecting a good Halloween scare but instead got a good reflection on the past. Great twist! Using ghosts this time of year to represent the things which haunt our minds and memories was very clever. And truly aren't those the most scary things we have to face?

I love the picture.

Indeed, they can be our friends. After all... we know them so well.

Such a deeply moving, ethereal work that captures so well the ghosts of our memories and our ability to use them for good or be effected by their haunting natures. Incredible work!!!
