Spring Lust
By: Lorraine Pearson
March 14, 2008

I grow impatient waiting on spring
The frozen of winter has dug it’s heels in
Time slowly passes as icicles drip
Nature’s teardrops with daggers to split
Earth’s rocky solid, patches of brown
Slicing a path, breaking the ground
As…
Blooms deeply hidden screaming for air,
Long for the sunlight of sky feathered fair
Aching to break through
Dark hardened crust
A seasonal change to satiate
Spring Lust.

I know this feeling all to well... when I lived in Pennsylvania I know about half way through winter I almost felt suffocated till spring came and brought new life with the crisp breezy air. You captured those feelings with our gift of writing.

A beautiful poem about spring. Very descriptive! I could see the icicles! BURR! Really good! Barbara

Only a woman could write this one - Lorraine. A woman and a mother to boot. The gestation of spring deep in the heart of winter, the labourous fight for life and the final birth of spring.

I looked for fave lines here and could find none that cried out more than any other.

Each line spoke the perfect truth of its place in this poem and each thought and feeling glided to the next in perfect harmony.

The strange thing is - this poem fits the birth or re-birth of many things other than spring.

It speaks of a hard earned emergence from the dark and cold into sunlight, beauty and joy.

A beautiful poem in every right.

Well done

Jen-JK

I love this, a more emotional, sensual appeal to spring...not as tame as mere spring fever. I also like your compact structure and sparing, masterfully precise use of words. A remarkable piece, considering you live in Florida! I look forward to reading more of your work.

This is gorgeous!
And it happens to be near and dear to my heart. Here in Alaska we have a term for it, "cabin fever". With SAD (Seasonal Affected Discorder) actually being as problem for some folks, we are always eager for Spring. Some places even sell special lights to combat the condition. http://alaskafullspectrumlighting.com/

That said, it is currently -27 F where I am at this moment. However, the Sun is shining brilliantly so it's a really pretty -27 : >)
