Not Out of My Drain...

"you can squish and squish..."
Not Out of My Drain…
By: Lorraine Pearson

If you had been
A butterfly
Crawling
Out of my drain
I wouldn’t have
Had to squish you
With the palm
Of my hand.
Instead of the grimace
I wore
On my face
A smile of delight
I’d have had in its place.
Then, why so few
Butterflies,
Yet so many
Of you,
I don’t know?
But…
I’m going to
Continue
Squishing you
Innumerable times-
Mister COCKROACH!

This gives me shivers. Cockroaches and I have never gotten a long. I have been fortunate not to have any for the past 14 years, but have lived in plenty of places where I did. I would probably spray the drains. :-)

I really enjoyed this poem, especially the verse where you say, " Instead of the grimace I wore on my face, A smile of delight I'd have in it's place."

A very cute little poem about something quite mundane. Isn't it amazing where our muse strikes us. I enjoy reading things that are whimsical as much as work that is serious. Thanks for sharing.
