Treasures Within

Nothing like cleaning out the attic...

Treasures Within

While dusting off the antiques
In the attic of my mind

And

Sorting through learned concepts
My collections over time…

I've discovered some ideals
I threw out- but wish were kept:

Then

Found some painful places where
I turned my back- then leapt.

Yet

I uncovered real treasures
Left behind-once thought as junk

I'm excited!

What more's been lost in
The recesses of this trunk?

Impressive write... yeah it's funny when we start to think back to certain times that may have seemed a bit harsh but now we look at them with fondness realizing they weren't actually that bad and even help you become the person you are. This poem of reflection is both eloquent and graceful... oh and a treasure itself.

Great maintenance of this analogy, which you've made your own with this interesting layout of couplets and a sense of time evolving into wisdom and appreciation. Nice job with the rhymes, apart from the line
"Left behind-believed as junk" ; just my personal feelings about it, but it doesn't quite make grammatical sense [although we understand what you mean], and for that reason feels overly-contrived to fit the rhyme scheme. I suggest having another look and maybe re-wording, e.g:
'Left behind-misconceived as junk'
or
'Left behind-believed to be junk'.

Like I say, just my opinion and suggestion.

Overall, good work.
A nice, reflective piece. Thanks for posting it.

It's so fun to explore those places, all funky and full of lore
but especially with some one special, that you really do adore.
(That would be you). Nice one...

Wow, I really like this, it has a very professional feel to it. Which usually isn't necessarily a good thing to say about poetry, but honestly I am impressed with how you took a well used subject and made it into your own.

I really like this poem, using a great metaphor and it's upbeat! Barbara

I love this piece as it makes me think about spinning time reliving past memories and being able to rediscover lost feelings and thoughts that we tend to forget and bury to be remembered another time. This flowed beautifully and really made for an enjoyable read.

Great Job!!!!!!
