Treasures Within

While dusting off the antiques
In the attic of my mind

And

Sorting through learned concepts
My collections over time…

I've discovered some ideals
I threw out- but wish were kept:

Then

Found some painful places where
I turned my back- then leapt.

Yet

I uncovered real treasures
Left behind-once thought as junk

I'm excited!

What more's been lost in
The recesses of this trunk?

Impressive write... yeah it's funny when we start to think back to certain times that may have seemed a bit harsh but now we look at them with fondness realizing they weren't actually that bad and even help you become the person you are. This poem of reflection is both eloquent and graceful... oh and a treasure itself.

I love this and it's so true. I recently moved and was looking through all boxes from my mom's attic; things which I hadn't seen in ages and it was amazing all the things and memories I found. Love this, not only the subject, but the structure which works perfectly here.

ha ha i like this poem! it's poignant but doesn't take itself too seriously

I like the poem'c compact nature, it's own inquisitive nature and how u take us on this jouney. i really like the rhyming scheme and how you made it flow very naturally, that takes skill - it seems each statement is it's own treasure:

I've discovered some ideals
I threw out- but wish were kept:

&

Found some painful places where
I turned my back- then leapt. --- i love this line! the image of one turning away and leaping into life or risk is amzingly confronting and inspiring

i liked the way you bolded I'm excited! but wondered why you felt it necessary italicising the rest??

yes, this is indeed wonderful poem but I must argue at some point! i find it hard to belive you hold any antiques in your mind! :P

thanks for sharing

The mind as an attic, concepts and ideals as the objects within....excellent metaphor.
I think we all could benefit from some "spring cleaning" now and then.
I enjoyed this!

Would be great to have some kind of scan to find all the things we know and then delete all those thoughts we no longer need that clog up our minds. I'm sure I know something worth knowing. Whether this would be treasured by anyone else or not I don't know but you've got me thinking now....

Beautiful write! The image captures the mind and heart, taking one from the commonplace to deep within the soul. So tender and full of hope!

Awesome images. I've walked down that dusty staircase with my own treasures once or twice. There's nothing like sifting through our lives. We get to discard anger, bitterness and hatred. And dust off happy memories, joys and hopes. Great write.

Oh, I like this 'cleansing' write! Reviewing and reflecting but looking to the future with the treasures you didn't realize you had. Creative piece here. Most of us don't take time to reflect and lookback and learn because we're so busy going and going and running forward.
I just love this. It flows and has great imagery. I like the way it's laid out also.

This is so clever and whimsical...yet the reader is invited to enjoy a depth that underlies the meaning of this peice. A treasure everyone can relate to.
