The Prince

The Prince

A Poem by Lorraine Montez
"

His passing has left a void. So I wrote this tribute poem to honor him. It's long, but he presided over decades of pop culture and there was much to say. RIP Prince.

"

The Prince left rather suddenly,

Went to another realm.

Left no one here behind him,

Can occupy the helm.

There’s no one now, nor ever will

Equipped to take his place,

There’s none so full of vibrancy,

Or flair, or stylish grace.

His name, fittingly regal

His genius, uncompared

His love of women, epic

His very essence, bared

In all he did, in all he played

In all that he created.

So sensual a being,

A force though, unabated.

None, so supreme in purpleness

None, masterful of sound

No stroke of nature, musical

Will ever yet be found.

The world in mourning, sorrowful…

The loss, too great to shoulder,

We wish that you were taken

When you were so much older.

Content to be his splendid self,

Defying what is norm

Pondering the spiritual,

Refusing to conform.

And orchestrating paisley,

Commanding doves and rain

Embodying love’s symbol

He does not need a name

It’s by his song he’s recognized

His energy, his movement

And by his generosity,

Which humbly, he lent.

A rainbow formed above his home

The day that he was summoned

I hope he strode across it

To the next place he will reign.

Sweet Prince Rogers Nelson

So achingly are you missed

Your existence here among us

Will never be dismissed

On the basis of transgender ways,

or sexuality unconcluded.

Can never be diminished

the brilliance you exuded.

Wherever now you dwell in soul,

Wherever now you are…

May the good Lord in His wisdom

Permit you, your guitar.

To entertain the stars at night,

To glorify the heavens

To bombastically introduce yourself

In sixes and in sevens.

And grace now the celestial

And glamorize the clouds

Pour down on us in Purple Rain

To permeate the crowds

Who gather in your honor,

Structures shrouded in your hues

To celebrate your magnificence,

And now, you are our muse…

To get through, this thing we call life.

First of all, this is the best poem I have read on prince in this website, it said so many things and you left the reader feeling a melancholic touch... His absence will never be fulfilled, and your poem told it superbly, every stanza told us how unique and great he was in so many ways... You gave him a tribute that can be felt by anyone... Excellent presentation with feelings and simple choice of words... Very well done.... RIP prince...

What a great tribute to prince! You did a great artist a wonderful honor by creating great art in his memory. I really loved so many parts of this; there were some really incredible lines and stanzas that stood out to me:

A rainbow formed above his home
The day that he was summoned
I hope he strode across it *What a fantastic thought, so fitting!*
To the next place he will reign.

And this:

May the good Lord in His wisdom
Permit you, your guitar. *I cant wait to get to heaven and see prince, regal as ever,
with his wild purple guitar.*

Wonderful poetry!

;} Looking forward to reading more of your material.
I like how you incorporated words and images from his songs, and this write surely shows his sensuality...there was much of it, in his movements and his songs---
he will be missed...he was the embodiment of soul...
