The Lonely Child

The Lonely Child

A Poem by Jane Darby

The clouds whizzed past, as l looked upon
The birds up high, the blazing sun
The stream beneath, the hills above
The playing child, the sweetest dove
The sun is warm, the sky is bright
The rays beam down, from dawn till night
The men have gone, the fields are bare
The child ran on, without a care
The clouds grew dark, as l looked upon
The birds up high, the fading sun
The stream was small, it wasn't deep
The child could cross, with one small leap
The wind blew hard, the night grew near
The child ran fast, as dark brought fear
The light has gone, the child was home
The child was held, no more alone
