Burning Down

Burning Down

A Poem by Loribeth215

The wind pushes fingers,

Through my hair,

And against my skin, heat carried on a breath

Across this desert.

And those fingers leave trails against my skin.

I know it’s ashes, all ashes

Our world is burning down.

How the fire

Warms you when

It’s kept under control

But when it’s free, when it’s fast

All the havoc it can wreak.

With just a touch,

A word,

Betrayal runs deep

Our world is burning down.
