Beware: The Siren's SongA Poem by LorenzoJust something I wrote out after leaving the diner one morning
Let me tell you a tale as old as time. It has many forms, but this one's mine. It starts as simple as the rest. Sitting at the diner, I hear the request.
"Would you like some coffee?" Yes please Hearing tales of luck, escaping the lady of the sea. No one knows the sirens song, but it'll destroy vessels and men weaker than me. "Another cup of coffee?" Yes please They say when her eyes glisten it'll dampen out the sun; when she bares her teeth she'll rob you of your soul. And yet, it's the sirens song that'll drain you of your sanity. "Another cup of coffee?" Yes please Of all the tales to tell of the things they've seen, all the old men say "beware: when the siren sings" "Another cup of coffee?" After this I'm done How lucky am I? she didnt get me! I'll spend the rest of my days here, telling tales of the sea. Beware the sirens song or she'll get thee. "Another cup of coffee?" Well, this has to be the last one Never look a siren in the eyes; she'll rob you of your light, as she devours your soul. Petrified in her gaze, she'll sing you her song. Once you realize what it is, you'll already be gone. "Another cup of coffee?" I must be going I was done, and yet, had another one "Just one more?" I glance up to glistening eyes that dim the sun and a smile that robs the air from my lungs. "Another cup of coffee coffee?" Yes please "Stay as long as you'd like" And all I can say is beware the lady of the sea. With eyes that shine to dim the sun and a smile that fills your lungs. It's her beauty that got me. "Another cup?" As if I have a choice So simple, so elegant, so pure; just an excuse to stay a little more. Beware: the siren's song, it's bested men like me. © 2023 Lorenzo |
