10100. A Sonnet of the Tortoise and the Hare

10100. A Sonnet of the Tortoise and the Hare

A Chapter by Ray Nichols
"

A narrative poem based on the fairy tale of the tortoise and the hair.

"
In realms where whispers weave through ancient trees,
A tale unfolds of fur and steady shell,
Where nature's lessons dance upon the breeze,
And prideful speed meets wisdom's quiet swell.

Once swift as lightning, Hare, with boastful grace,
Proclaimed his speed to all who'd pause and hear,
"Behold my prowess! None can match my pace,
For I, the victor, hold the crown most dear!"

Yet Tortoise, slow and humble in his way,
With quiet strength and patience in his heart,
Responded, "Let us race, and I shall stay,
True to my path, though I am set apart."

The race began, Hare dashed with wild delight,
While Tortoise trudged, embracing steady flight.

But as the sun arched high in azure skies,
The Hare grew weary, confidence his blight,
He paused to nap, beneath the sun’s warm rise,
While Tortoise pressed on, steadfast in his plight.

With every inch, the slow one gained the ground,
His heart a drumbeat, steady, strong, and true,
While dreams of victory in slumber drowned,
The Hares’ great folly was his pride that grew.

Awakening, he saw the finish near,
In shock, he raced, but time had slipped away;
Tortoise crossed first, the crowd erupted cheer,
A lesson learned, in nature’s grand ballet.

Now heed this tale: though speed may seem the best,
It’s steady strides that lead to true success.
