Not Yours

Not Yours

A Poem by Lorame

Curiosity peaked
You’ve caught my eye
And all I can do
Is wonder why
We walk with the same motion
We think the same thoughts
And I have come to find
It matters more than it ought
So now I have to tell you
It’s time for you to go
I can’t do this anymore
And I need you to know
My heart isn’t yours to hold
It’s in someone else’s hands
Walk away, walk away
It’s with someone else I stand
Oh how sweet the glimpses
You’ve caught my eye
And all I can do
Is reply
We sing the same melody
We seek out all the good
But I have come to find
It matters more than it should
So now I’m here to tell you
It’s time for you to go
I can’t do this anymore
And I need you to know
My heart isn’t yours to hold
Let go of what you’ve dreamed of
Walk away, walk away
It is someone else I love

I simply loved the way this was written. There is something about this piece that I can't quite put my finger on. It was the emotion behind it I think. The way it had began pulled me right in and after that I seemed to wade with your words until the close. The addition of, "Walk away, walk away", set the feel of the poem for me and slowed my reading down. Truly brilliantly written, Lorame. Everything about this comes together perfectly.

Sounds to me like a "Dear John" letter.
What once was is now shown the door.

The speaker seems to have caught interest in someone who was the same as them, but it was too much for them or too mundane. Opposites attract? And the speaker fell in love. This sounds more like a song and it's a bit detached with a fun vibe, but with a blunt shrude message.
