The Monster

The Monster

A Poem by Emily

I have a monster that resides within,
This monster thought he had all of the control,
Control over my life, my mind, even my family.
But that stops today,
I cannot let this monster keep controlling my life,
And more importantly I won’t let him control the person I love the most.
She’s always waiting for him to come out too.
Constantly checking to see if he’s come out again,
Looking me straight in the eyes as if she’s seeing through my soul to see if he’s still in there.
The monster took over MY life over 12 years ago, but today I say goodbye,
C’ya later friend,
You’ve taught me a lot and made me stronger but you’re no longer my monster,
I will look at you as you are, So Epilepsy here's to a fresh start.
Hopefully for all of us

Thank you for sharing this very personal poem of yours. You are very brave and strong. My father suffered from epilepsy for much of his adult life after brain surgery in the 70s. It is a horrible thing to have to live with. But he did and was courageous for it. Continue to live your life and never let this disease control you. Thank you for this poem and also for showing just how strong a person you are to the world.
