[Both Ends of the World] Part 3: The Honest Belief

[Both Ends of the World] Part 3: The Honest Belief

A Poem by Lonesome Traveler

“Long live the king!”, the followers say

The king, so conceited, really thinks

None of his followers would betray

None of them would resist

His power, as he thought,

Is the most high of high

And everything that he bought

Wouldn’t make anyone cry

His daughter, alone in the tower,

Grieves for her father’s cruelty

She doesn’t want this shower

Of pride, richness, and beauty

A normal life, she wanted

The life of a lowly peasant

But up there, where she lived

Was really really unpleasant

The king really detests her

He really wanted a son

He didn’t want a daughter

So the legacy could live on

One day, a threat to his life

Coming forth from a messenger

He should be killed with a knife

Or leave her daughter in danger

He refused to be killed by

This treacherous murderer

He wanted only his riches

and agreed with the idea of the daughter

“Go ahead and kill her

I do not care for the woman

For I didn’t want a daughter

I really wanted a son”

“Yes, my lord. I agree to your wish

Tomorrow at sunset your majesty

That is the time to serve the dish

and serve it to your deity”

What the king didn’t know

Was the goal of the murderer

The murderer would stop the growth

of the riches for everyone’s better

Tomorrow at dawn the murderer struck

He went on to find the princess

The king does not make such mock

Of the murderer’s deceitful “kindness”

Soon the king hears a loud shout

He went outside to see who it was

Then he asked, “What is this all about?”

“It’s about a man named Karifas”

To the king’s shock, the murderer’s dead

Beside it was his peasant in his field

The murderer was murdered as he read

What the murderer’s face yield

He then saw his lovely daughter

Crying near the lowly peasant

That’s when he realized he loved her

And he was always, to her, unpleasant

The king changed his ways, from evil to nice

The kingdom was then filled with joy

He no longer needed more sacrifice

And no longer will he make anyone a toy
