Bully no more

Every second someone is getting bullied.  Thousands of children around the world are either the victim of bullying or they’re the bully.  How would it feel to be bullied every day.  People, it’s time to stop bullying and speak up!  What’s the purpose of me writing this, I bet you're wondering.  It’s to teach everyone around the world, to stop bullying.

Let's talk serious for a minute.  Did you know that children will kill themselves just so that they won't be bullied anymore?  Children shouldn’t have to take their own lives just to get away from bullying.  This is a very serious issue, and it’s time, we make a change.  In 2005, 270 teens killed themselves because of bullying, and this number is increasing every year.  Every 18 minutes, someone dies from bullying.  Every 30 seconds someone attempts suicide.  You do the math.  Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC.  For every successful suicide among young people, there are at least 100 attempts.  Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.  Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims.  A study in Britain found that at least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying. Teenage girls may be at even higher risk for suicide.  According to statistics reported by ABC News, nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims, and 160,000 kids stay home from school every day because of bullying.  As you can see, a lot of people have thought about or done suicide because of being bullied.

Bullying is a serious issue.  Did you know that some statistics say that 100,000 students carry a gun to school, just in case they’re bullied!  Over 282,000 students have been physically attacked in secondary schools.  One in seven students K-12 are either the victim or the bully.  People really?  Most of the time when you see someone get bullied, what's the very thing that comes to your mind?  Please take a second and think about what you would do.  My friend Mckenzie, said that she would tell the bully to stop and she would say “that's rude.”  My friend Katelyn said, “I would go up to the bully and tell them to stop.”  My other friend Bre said, “I would go up to the person getting bullied and talk to them and be a good friend.  I would say to the person who's getting bullied.  Don’t let anyone judge you.  You are you, and you are perfect.  I'd stand up to the bully and tell an adult.”  These are some people's response to that question, now what's yours?

Bullying is all around the world.  Some places have it worse than others, but when you see someone getting bullied you should stand up and tell an adult so they can take care of the problem.  Come on people let's all join forces and make a difference in the world!  It’s a new year.  It’s 2012.  It’s time for a new change.  That change can start with one, and grow bigger than you could ever imagine.  Let’s save people’s lives.  Let’s have no more people suffering.  No one will commit suicide.  They won’t even try.  My essay may have a lot of facts in it, but what all of them are trying to get you to realize that: it’s time to stop bullying.  Speak up and be heard!
