I watched

A bunny watches a little girl grow up to be someone bitter.

I nuzzled into her

As the little girl pet me more

She watched as I startle

At the bitter voices through the door

My fur became wet and her arms held me tighter

“You can feel it too, don’t you?” 

I waited in her room

As her heart grew sour 

All I could do was watch

As her bitter words gained power

To her scared lonely life, at least

She now had bid adieu

I kept myself hidden 

As her bitter voice 

Rang through the door. I stood there as a witness

As her life succumbed to the noise

Oh, but what could I ever do? 

I could nuzzle into her one last time

 My cold fur wet again from tears

Then I heard a voice- like bitter honey

A final embrace, oh so familiar

“I lost myself and now you too, bunny”

A bunny watches as a little girl turns bitter because of her environment.
The last line of the final stanza was not written because… the bunny died.

This is so sad to read. Why did the Bunny die?
Was it by heartbreak, neglect or just old age?
The poem touched me and is so beautifully written.
Bitterness can rob us away of all our precious things in life.

Bunnies unfortunately have quite short lifespans. Add that with a very sad environment to live in, the bunny wouldn’t have lived for too long :/
A bitter environment can affect everyone, including the one who is bringing this bitterness very negatively. And pets, they can feel much deeper than us in some ways.
