Damaged Goods

Damaged Goods

A Poem by Lonely Poet
"

When you fall in love with someone and end up only causing them more pain...

"
She was so miserable and alone,
Like an abused animal begging for it to end.
Pompously I dove right in,
Thinking that her wounds I'd mend.

What a fool I was and blind as well,
How could I expect to patch a life together?
I didn't even have control of my own,
Nor was I prepared for the storms she had to weather.

But I proceeded and the damage was done,
Constantly failing but keep myself blind with lies.
I just kept driving the knife deeper and deeper,
Not seeing the mistakes I'd make as she cries.

Now she's gone and I don't blame her,
I failed her in too many ways.
Emotionally and physically I'd hurt her,
Scars she'll now have for the rest of her days.

It appears that you were ill equipped to handle what your partner needed in your relationship and your meddling only made things worse for her as an end result. Sometimes we have to heal ourselves adequately first before attempting to do the same for somebody else. Your poem demonstrates how you only made things ultimately worse, leaving scars perhaps too ugly to hide! Your poem was a good write about a painful subject matter! Kudos!
