A Runner's Ode To FallA Poem by Trisha Logan HilleryInvigorate my lungs with fresh fall air Embrace the aroma of a New England morn. Adjust my eyes to dim dawn light Sequester my fingers 'neath warm fleece cuffs. Scarlet and crimson leaves crunch underfoot Each a masterpiece, God's work of art. Sweet cider scent surrounds my town I quicken my pace, feel the Runner's High Early commuters scrape off fall's first frost Runner smiles a greeting then swooshes on past. As the finish point beckons, thoughts of work intrude To-do list appears and deadlines come to loom. Time trots on and students are taught Home is revisited with obligations complete. running shoes whisper, call from the hall Let's run again, let's run in the fall. I honor the offer and lace up the shoes Dart out the door to New England's gift. Enchanted cool evening, runner's spirit soars Forge ahead and run, my Ode To Fall. © 2016 Trisha Logan HilleryReviews
