Chapter 4: Accident

One wrong step is all it takes.

At Thirty. Everything was great.

I worked as a coach. Me, coaching sport! It was a soccer team for disabled children. Run by our local council. Out of all the people in this town, they gave me the job. They said that I would be able to relate to the children. Growing up with one leg.

I kissed Emily goodbye at 8am every Wednesday and Friday morning. Dropped Lucy at Daycare and headed to the oval where I coached the children before school. Then I went back to my office, planned the next couple of training sessions. Picked Lucy up and came home.

Emily was an Architect. I’d always known she was smart. She worked full time so I was the one who took care of Lucy most of the time.

I was driving to work when I got the phone call.

Sir, your wife’s been in an accident…
