Read Me

Read Me

A Poem by Everchanging Disaster

A fading picture of me,

painted in cigarette smoke-

grey and transparent,

dissolving into whispers

will show-

I long to dance,

like the flickering flame-

clumsy and thready,

easily extinguished.

I live to sing,

like the blades of grass-

humble and modest,

melodious and fragile.

I wish to live,

like the birds amidst the sky-

free and unchallenged,

swimming in clouds.

Take my ragged photo and wipe the dust away-

as if I were a book that you could read.

Brush the pieces of me from your hand-

as if trying to rid yourself from me.

I am the particles all around you-

I am the air you breath.

I love your poem, especially the opening stanza

A fading picture of me,

painted in cigarette smoke-

grey and transparent,

dissolving into whispers

This is beautiful and very reminiscent of something I myself might write. I love this line: "A fading picture of me, painted in cigarette smoke". Evocative and emotional. I love your metaphors here. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful piece.
