A teaspoon of happiness...

A teaspoon of happiness...

A Poem by Everchanging Disaster

It never ceases to amaze me,

How people seem to be unappreciative of all they have.

People equate happiness as being a by-product

Of some wonderful life changing event,

Like buying a new car or getting a promotion.

But happiness is so much more than that.

Life changing, earth shattering events

Seldom come around but on the other hand,

We are presented with significantly smaller opportunities everyday.

A perfect cup of coffee,

An encouraging smile;

Can also inspire feelings of happiness,

But in the great scheme of things,

When we weigh the good and bad in our lives,

Small things seem to be lost in the background.

When deciding whether or not our life has been a pleasant one,

We tend to include all of our short comings.

I've found that people unknowingly answer the question

"How are you doing" with negative comments,

Even when the amount of wonderful things in their life at the moment are abundant.

So take your time one day,

And count every last beautiful, wonderful, awe-inspiring event

As your day unfolds and see if you don't change your outlook on life,

At least a little.

What true, true sentiments you're expressing in this write! You ought to print off hundreds of copies and pass them out to people with a warm smile on your face.

We do overlook small happinesses, 'only see the bad and sad that's happened. Maybe dreams don't come true, maybe things don't turn out as we would like.. but, hey, what we're had is just wonderful! We can't live in the past but, if there were happy times, carry them through to the present and future.

Sorry, can't give c onstructive comments because I agree with 99% of what you've written and like the way in which you've done so.

There are some great phrases in your poem.. '.. People equate happiness as being a by-product, /Of some wonderful life changing event.' - that's sooooo true - we can't expect it everywhere in life -- ' But in the great scheme of things, / When we weigh the good and bad in our lives, / Small things seem to be lost in the background. ' and that's so true as well.

I haven't any criticisms as such: maybe a little of your punctuation is out of place, the metre varies here and there; but, because you've written so sincerely, thisiseems like a piece of ancient wisdom being told by an old, long-lived man who knows what he's talking about and, wants to share.

Thank YOU so much for sharing.
