An examination of certainty...

An examination of certainty...

A Poem by Everchanging Disaster

In this life,

The reality is,

That the only thing for certain,

Is that we will face uncertainty.

There is nothing that stays exactly the same forever.

Progress propels us forward,

And in so doing, inspires change.

This means that we are never in any sense,

At the same point twice.

You may however stand in the same exact spot,

But you yourself are not in actuality the same exact person,

That stood there before.

As every day progresses you are older,

Closer to dying,

More wrinkled and worried,

And perhaps if you are lucky, wiser.

You may make the same mistakes twice,

And although you are a wiser person,

You still may choose to ignore the outcome.

But who knows today what mistakes they will make tomorrow?

Or how the day will end for that matter.

Will you take a step forward or back?

No one knows,

And if we did,

Life would be a little boring don't you think?

Well, I have seen my share of uncertainty...

Things and plans change,

People change,

Promises are broken.

But you live,

You do the best you can with what you are given,

And hope that for an instant that is enough.

No one wants to live up to other peoples expectations,

Only their own.

So we face the surprises of a new day with our best foot forward,

Hopefully,

And pray that it is easier than the last.

Some nights it's easy to sleep,

Some nights it's all you can do not to cry.

And me,

What will become of me?

Am I destined to end up one way or another?

No.

That's right-nothing is certain.
