CivilityA Poem by Joseph EluzaiOh, just some silly poem that feels right. The press of other duties Broken off in mid-thought No foot to stand on When it comes back full circle Try another lie Doctors cost money, friends are free She looks fine Every often sending out a little beep Holding you back for days And not to stretch this too far, Things are sliding away from you Put your pants on It is the only thing anyone cares about Try another lie Doctors cost money, friends are free I love her close to me Within seconds of reach Like bright dashes of the Sun Slipping away from your shapes Peeling back the layers of affection Beyond your own doorstep Try another lie Doctors cost money, friends are free We can pierce a hole through And watch the hours tick by To fill it up to the top To bring us back to the contention Before history overruns us Like a fly falling into a coffee cup I bet we need a shoulder to cry on Try another lie, Doctors cost money, friends are free Harvest every drop of sobriety And give me a break You can buy anything As long as you have a big roll around your waist And if memory serves me well All it takes is money Try another lie, Doctors cost money, friends are free Step into a pool of light Then walk quietly to victory Just as water finds its own level Plunging back through consciousness Call us out for praise That no one can match Try another lie, Doctors cost money, friends are free You and I will bleed under the divider Or something like that To defend the newest battlefront In the bubbling pot of civility But who will guard our borders? We are well past our expiry date Stuck in a crack or under rubble Try another lie, Doctors cost money, friends are free.
