Monday Morning
A Poem by Joseph Eluzai
The Monday morning news of Dr. John Garang’s death broke….
Shadowy
Monday morning
In
sleeping ears lodging
Churning
up our destiny
Lurking
in the realm of misery
To
catapult us into shock
And
silence every c**k
Foundering
in breaking
The
news of bitterness
Overriding
the sweetness
Wedged
between hope and despair
Just
days before a fanfare
Now
grief and wonderment
At
fate’s relief & disappointment
Washing
us with torrents of tears
A
deluge on vibrant bush years
Of
immense loss and endless anguish
Laden
with a heavy cross and limitless relish
Lo,
you paddle home the news
Dripping
of our hues
Cornering
the gleaming dews
With
the fury of abruptness
Disarming
their coldness
To
rip open the stillness
Now
everything else is heaviness
